Schedule E Wage Increase Delayed to 1 December 2026
An important update for our NDIS and disability-sector clients.
The Fair Work Commission has confirmed a change to the commencement date for the upcoming wage increases affecting Schedule E – Home Care Employees – Disability Care under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS Award).
The first phase of the wage increase, approximately 15%, will now commence from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026, rather than 1 October 2026 as previously anticipated.
Who does this affect?
The change applies specifically to employees covered by Schedule E of the SCHADS Award. It does not apply to other SCHADS classifications, including aged care employees.
What should employers do?
The revised commencement date provides affected employers with additional time to prepare for the changes.
We recommend employers use this additional time to:
Confirm which employees are classified under Schedule E.
Review current classifications and pay rates.
Identify the financial impact of the wage increase.
Prepare payroll systems and budgets for the new rates.
Ensure the increased rates are applied from the correct first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026.
Communicate the change to affected employees at the appropriate time.
Explore Potential can assist with reviewing classifications, Award coverage and implementation of the new rates to help ensure your organisation is prepared ahead of December.
