Child & Youth Services, Senior Child & Youth Worker
BoraCare is seeking compassionate and experienced Senior Child & Youth Workers for our Children and Youth Services to support and mentor our dedicated team in providing exceptional care and support to children in need.
As an emerging provider of residential care in the South Australian Out of Home Care Sector, BoraCare is committed to implementing a specialised service model called “Collective Kindness,” emphasising trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and therapeutic approaches to care.
Senior Child & Youth Workers work across a seven-day AM/PM Roster with rotating on-call responsibilities, ensuring the well-being, development, and safety of children and young people in our care.
- Champion the voices of children and young people, ensuring their perspectives are heard and respected in all aspects of the care environment.
- Uphold the rights of children and young people as outlined in the Charter of Rights for Children & Young People in Care.
- Demonstrate cultural humility, safety, and proficiency within the care environment.
- Facilitate access to community activities and services to enhance resilience and community belonging.
- Foster self-esteem and individual identity through personalised care and the maintenance of life story books and cultural plans.
- Ensure staff are trained and informed about relevant medical issues and medication administration.
- Support Supervisor in staff supervision and development.
- Facilitate thorough transition processes for intake and exit of children and young people.
- Liaise with stakeholders through weekly reports and timely responses to requests.
- Provide post-incident debriefing and support to children, young people, and staff.
- Maintain accurate and secure documentation of participant information, adhering to privacy legislation.
- Assist in managing the budget and household requirements in collaboration with line management.
- Ensure effective communication and reporting processes to meet statutory, organisational, and funding body requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and practices.
- Coach and inspire an engaged and productive team.
- Coach the team in implementing therapeutic, trauma-informed, and culturally aware practices.
- Participate in regular supervision and performance reviews with Supervisor, promoting collaborative working relationships.
- Certificate IV in Youth Work, Child & Family Intervention, Disability Services or above – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in child and youth services, with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, cultural competence, and child protection principles.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures in the child welfare sector.
- Current Working with Children Check and relevant clearances as required by regulatory authorities.
