Assistant Manager – Child & Youth Services

Are you an experienced leader in the child and youth sector looking to step into a hands-on, impactful role?

We are seeking an Assistant Manager to support the delivery of high-quality services for children and young people. This role combines operational coordination, team leadership, and frontline support, ensuring services run smoothly while maintaining a strong focus on safety, wellbeing, and best practice.

About the Role

As Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of Child & Youth Services. You will support staff, oversee service delivery, and ensure consistent, high-quality care aligned with trauma-informed and child-centred approaches.

You will also act as a first point of escalation for operational matters and step into leadership responsibilities when required.


Key Responsibilities

Service Coordination & Operations

  • Oversee daily operations across programs supporting children and young people

  • Ensure effective rostering, staffing coverage, and service continuity

  • Respond to incidents and operational issues, escalating where required

  • Support service delivery during peak periods and after-hours situations

Leadership & Staff Support

  • Provide coaching, guidance, and support to team members

  • Promote trauma-informed, culturally safe, and child-centred practice

  • Support onboarding and ongoing development of staff

  • Reinforce expectations and contribute to performance conversations

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure accurate documentation, case notes, and incident reporting

  • Monitor compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements

  • Assist with audits and quality assurance processes

Complex Care Coordination

  • Support teams in managing complex or high-needs cases

  • Identify and escalate risks in a timely manner

  • Ensure care plans and safety strategies are implemented consistently

Workforce & Resource Management

  • Approve rosters and monitor staffing needs

  • Support recruitment activities and interviews

  • Ensure staff have appropriate tools and resources

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain communication with external stakeholders and care teams

  • Attend meetings and ensure follow-up actions are completed


About You

You are a confident and capable leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about supporting children and young people.

You will bring:

  • Experience leading or supervising teams in care or support settings

  • Strong understanding of child protection, trauma-informed practice, and care standards

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and respond to complex situations

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • A calm, solutions-focused approach with strong emotional intelligence


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or related field

  • Relevant industry clearances (Working with Children Check, NDIS Screening, Police Check)

  • Experience in residential or youth care settings (highly regarded)
